“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”
— C.S. Lewis
What brings teenagers together? That’s the burning question. Is it shared interests, classes, or favorite colors? Or is it deeper than that? How do you determine whether or not you want to pursue a relationship with a peer? Here at KNN we are conducting a small survey for the people; to try and find out what connects students in Middle and High School. Please fill out and share the form below to help us in our search for the answer!

Movie Night? More like Movie Fright
While I have not attended the movie nights now apparently common at High School, what I assume is the case is that a good chunk of people have and are expecting to attend them. Now what's better than bringing foolish kids together, than a promise of movies and a threat of a murder mystery? Think about it. We pull a High School Musical and plan both events at the same time on the same day. It will result in only Disney channel perfection. If someone actually does get murdered, it only inspires more people, who didn't even go to the events, to attend the funeral. All I’m saying is that the idea of murder, makes people go crazy to attend. Look at any murder mystery movie, and you realize that people go nuts for the combination of both film and life-ending violence.
Community Served (Part 2)
As last we left off, we had just become friends with all of those community services criminals, after committing a misdemeanor. Now that you have found a community outside of school, what do you do to unite your out-of-school peers with your criminal ones? Simply start a fundraiser, an illegal base one if possible, to better connect the interests and ideas of your fellow students. If there is one thing smart kids love, it’s gaining community service hours, and this would be the perfect opportunity! Whatever you come up with I’m sure you will be able to connect with all those potential friends. Students are vastly overworked by their school, so they can relate to someone who has to spend hours to achieve simple trash cleanup. While many lazy kids will not participate, be sure to include “snacks will be provided” and your numbers will quadruple instantly.

What brings people together? I believe that similar interests bring others together, which means that most of my friends and I can relate to a wide range of topics.
Middle school is a lot about finding yourself- whatever that might be, but it’s mostly done there where everyone’s starting to grow personalities and interests which will probably stick for life. Which yes, causes a lot of drama, even in my friend bubble. Like the situation with Natalie (the girl I talked about a few KNNs ago), she’s someone who’s invaded my friend group and hasn’t done much of anything but bad for us (the situation is still incredibly complex for all of us haha).
Even so, people find a good number of people who hold similar interests. Elementary school was never really known as a place to make friends anyway, and in high school, it seems like everyone already has friends. So Middle School in my eyes is really where people find their group (which I think sucks for the people who transfer to a different school once getting into high school)
In summary then, if you plan on heading somewhere else after the school you’re in once the school year is finished, whether that’s college for the High people, high for the High School students, or high school for the Middle Schoolers, I would like to wish you good luck, especially if you’re moving districts or into college. Since moving to any type of school not only gives you more opportunity to make other friends but also more ‘danger’ in a way to the different people who are going to be around you.
