“Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears.”
– John Lennon
As we live, we age. That age may be defined by numbers or years, but I believe you age with knowledge and memories. We are all growing up now, and three of our friends have turned 17. The rest of us are either 16, or about to be 16 in two days! As we grow older, remember that we still have SO much of our lives ahead of us. This is only a fraction of the big picture. Imagine in 30 years, when you are talking about your younger days, then you will probably be reminiscing about your early 20's. But hey, you won’t be stressing over that school assignment you failed back in 11th grade. So, don’t sweat the small stuff, and try living your life looking forward. You can only improve on yourself now.

You're and Adult, Now What?
Now you go and be an adult. What do you want me to tell you? I'm not the oldest in the group; why ask for my opinion when you can form your own? You are an adult, so ask an adult for advice. Adulting is hard, millennial memes can tell you that, so ask someone with experience. Ask someone who has a resume in adulting, to adult. Employ a certified elder, a bachelor of age, or a doctor of old. The world of adults wants to drain your soul and put you in a box, and they will if you don’t stop them. Color outside the lines, and find a passion that invigorates your soul. Locate your goals, and follow the map to the X. Be Thankful™ that you are who you are, and use your uniqueness to create the life of your dreams.
Aging
Gerascophobia, the fear of aging. Like many fears, it is generally irrational, I would assume. At least in your youth, being afraid of having wrinkles is a far-off issue. But as the river of time flows, and as the hourglass empties, you get closer and closer to your demise. You get closer and closer to being nothing but bare bones, and you get closer and closer to being forgotten. But why should we ponder that now? Why waste our youth, contemplating our death? Go and live your youth, before your age prevents you from living it. Your body will decay, and to slow this decline you must stay active. Actively go and play and experience. Learn everything about yourself, then learn everything about everyone you surround yourself with. Take a moment and breathe, take a moment and think, and take a moment and think about the now. The present is a gift, the past is forgotten, and the future doesn't exist… yet.

As an 8th grader, growing up- or adulting in this case- is a massive part of our lives. And it’s just as important in my friend group- which does give some pretty nice drama.
As people grow up and start turning into the person they’re going to be as an adult, their personalities can change… drastically. This means things that they could have liked a few weeks ago, they’re uninterested in- and they now have a completely different point of interest. It’s confusing, and definitely for a group of either graders.
Not only this, school systems are pushing futures now, more than ever, which means that a lot off eighth graders are already thinking about the next four years of their lives, which is a lot in advance for us small beans- as we only had to do the next year for the previous years (If that makes sense haha).
In conclusion, eighth graders no matter the school are all stressed about growing up and adulting so soon into the grade, as it is only the second nine weeks of school.
With that said, my friends here at MS and I wish everyone a good Thanksgiving Break or break if you don’t celebrate the holiday. Enjoy your time, and sleep while you have it!
