Week of August 19 - 23, 2024
"Always work hard and have fun in what you do because I think that's when you're more successful. You have to choose to do it.”
— Simone Biles
A local Homeless man had his money stolen from him by a young woman this week. When we look at this situation from afar, most of us would turn our heads and look the other way. That needs to stop. We need to stand up for those less fortunate than us, we need to make them heard. Many homeless people are ashamed of admitting they need help, so instead of waiting for them to ask for help, maybe we should offer help to them first. If there is something you should remember from this week's edition, it is to always look out and stand up for others.

Homecoming
As the days go by in this new school, we walk ever towards the most dividing time of the year. Homecoming. This event, and its theme, will be a topic of discussion for weeks to come. And by weeks, I do mean weeks. If you are coming from Clark you might be familiar with the end of October time-frame of the past, but no more. This event is just over a month away, looming over all parents foaming at the mouth, begging to make their child a mum. I would know, and some of you may come to learn of that from me directly. I urge some of you to go out and talk amongst your friends about what you want the theme to be. I selected ‘Starry Night’ but I am eager to hear another's opinions. Each theme is unique in its own right, and this decision shouldn't be taken lightly if you are to attend the event. Or if you would rather leave it up to chance or fate, be sure to avoid this topic for the coming weeks, you might just have to lose two of your five senses to do so. May the odds ever be in your favor and merry Homecoming.
The Pond
The pond is truly a sight to behold here at High School. It is home to many forms of life, from ducks to fish, to various germs, that no one wants plaguing their immune system. Indeed its majesty is only limited by the gunk and algae that is a scourge on the nostrils and eyes of this fine school. In the coming student election, the cleaning of this pond has become a foundation for many candidate's campaigns. The pond has sat here for years, and yet nothing has been done, and perhaps nothing will be done. To continue to believe in the lies of those with supposed good intentions will not get you far. Be sure to consider how much this pond means to you. Most of KNN’s subscribers have not gone to this school for more than 2 weeks, and a pond like this needs someone who has seen its struggles, its hardships, and its depression. Be sure to speak to a trusted adult if you see changes in the pond's behavior. The tip line is a great source of information for the counselors to know if anything emotional is going on with this iconic pond. Not every dirty surface must be clean and sterile, think about how the pond likes its dirt for once, and you can see beyond your close-minded, germaphobic, nature. Take a second and appreciate the foul algae smell for once, and you will see true beauty.
